Woman’s rescue by human chain in MD caught on video
Ellicott City’s iconic clock was returned Wednesday to its spot on Main Street, symbolizing what Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman said was the revival of a town swept into ruin after a deadly flood on Saturday.

Kittleman said he would never forget the video of residents forming a human chain to rescue a person trapped in a auto in the rising water. A group of strangers acted fast and joined hands to form a human chain. The men were able to rescue the woman and pull her to safety. Two people were killed while several homes and businesses suffered devastating damage in Ellicott City, Maryland, which is located about 15 miles from Baltimore.
Two people were killed and a large part of Ellicott City’s Main Street was destroyed by rushing floodwaters this past weekend, taking with it vehicles, roads, sidewalks and parts of buildings, according to media reports. “Even in the midst of knowing he’d likely just lost all of his inventory, Jason realized what was important and deftly tried to reach the woman as the vehicle came to a stop in front of his store”.
“About 50 feet down, the river was kind of cresting and we didn’t expect anyone to survive if they went down that far”, he said.
“Our department has a long and successful history of partnership with Ellicott City, particularly through our neighborhood revitalization programs”, said Secretary Kenneth C. Holt. “Then we found out people died and then it hit us”.
“It was insane, she said”. He said that there are more “urbanized impervious surfaces” such as as asphalt and concrete that increases the water that runs off into streams, lakes and rivers. “It’s going to be a long time before this place is going to be a thoroughfare between Baltimore and Howard County”.
“I could be one of those people”, he said.

“They told me that the door was totally ripped away from the hinges, and I don’t know how much water I have inside”, Breidenbach told The AP by phone Sunday.
