Woman spends almost £300 saving pet goldfish’s life
Emma Marsh knew something was wrong.

A Brisbane, Australia woman noticed her pet goldfish “Conqueror” choking, and she spared no effort (or expense) to get it some help, according to the Courier Mail.
Spotting the black object through his translucent white scales, she raced to Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Service where staff immediately went to work. It seems Conquer has quite literally become a goldfish…
Veterinarian Emma McMillan told the Courier News that the fish would have died if they didn’t intervene.
“We were amazed that [Conquer’s] owner noticed the pebble – she is a very observant and devoted mum!”
Conquer, who is only about 2 inches long, had swallowed a pebble that was about.4 inches long.
“We did this by dripping an anesthetic agent into the water until Conquer was asleep enough to allow us a good look in his mouth”, the caption reads on one of the Facebook photos.
The pebble is nearly entirely removed from the tiny goldfish’s mouth.
Once Conquer was knocked out, Dr. McMillan used forceps and titled his mouth to the side just slightly out of the water to remove the pebble from the goldfish that is 13 g (0.4 oz) and just 5 cm (1.9 inches) long.

The whole thing will amount to about $500 ($100 for emergency consultation and $400 for the anaesthetic and the night spent in the hospital for Conquer to recover from this traumatic moment), which, quite ironically, is around the price of 13g in 18-carat gold. Conquer is reportedly doing well.
