The Indianapolis Star reports 43-year-old Karen Dolley of Indianapolis threw punches until she had the man cornered during the Thursday night break-in.

In what may be every cosplayer’s dream, an Indiana woman fought off a home intruder using Medieval combat skills.
After dealing the blows, Dolley, who is 5-feet-6, attempted to reach for her gun but opened the wrong drawer, so instead she held the intruder, who is 5-feet-10, at bay with her ninjato – a Japanese, single-edged ninja sword – and dialed 911.
Dolley has a rifle, but if the woman attended get hold of it, this lady unfolded an unsuitable cabinet inside the confusion of one’s occasion.
The suspect, 30-year-old Jacob Wessel of Greenwood, was arrested and charged with residential entry, the Star reports. “Hitting someone like that, it isn’t like the movies”.
“I definitely don’t need to work on my aggression, I guess”, Dolley said.
It’s best to run, but if you can’t, using a knife or stick is acceptable for someone with training in their use. A good last option is to use everyday objects in your home, like a lamp.
As Dolley and the intruder waited for police to arrive, he reached into his pocket. That’s when Dolley applied more pressure into the sword and told him to stop moving.
“I would have swung the sword at him or I would have stabbed him”, says Dolley.
She told the Star that early on, her opponents were able to guess what her moves would be because she was too tentative, for fear of hurting them.
Wessel, who apologised to Ms Dolley on the way out, was taken to hospital because he seemed to be buzzed on an unidentified substance. “I know I could do it, but I don’t want to do that”. Now, Dolley is only upset that the intruder ruined her sleep and angered her cat.

“At the end of the day, I’m glad to know that even if I wake up in the middle of the night, I’m not going down without a fight”, she added to the paper.
