Women’s Basketball to Host NCAA First-Second Rounds March 4-5

The Loras women’s basketball team learned of its draw in the 2016 NCAA Division III tournament on Monday after earning the Iowa Conference’s automatic bid on Saturday.
This is John Carroll’s 14th time in the tournament. The Griffins recovered from a 1-3 start to the year to finish 21-6 (17-1 CSAC), taking down the No. 2 seed Neumann Knights in the league championship 84-70 to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.
St. Vincent (22-6) will make its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Delaware Valley gets Oswego State (20-8), as the MAC Freedom champions play the SUNYAC runners-up in Marrietta, Ohio; victor plays either Marietta or Gwynedd Mercy in the second round. Oswego State plays Delaware Valley on Friday at 5.
Ohio Wesleyan (23-4) of the North Coast Athletic Conference will host Pitt-Greensburg (19-9) in the first-round of tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Branch Rickey Arena.
The Panthers enter the NCAA Tournament riding a seven-game winning streak, and rank sixth in NCAA Division III in three-point percentage (36.8) and seventh in field-goal percentage (45.4). UW-Whitewater finished as the 2013 NCAA Division III runner-up, and also advanced to the Final Four in 2008 and 2014, finishing third each of those years.

The victor will advance to the Saturday’s second round against host No. 1 ranked Thomas More or LaRoche (Pa.).
