Wood Looks Dominant In Dodgers’ Win

Had the Los Angeles Dodgers not had such a comfortable lead over the San Franciaco Giants in the NL West, the pain of losing a game that took 5 hours, 23 minutes and 16 innings to lose would have been excruciating.

LOS ANGELES – Less than 18 hours after the game that wouldn’t end finally did, Alex Wood restored order for an exhausted and beaten-up Los Angeles Dodgers team.

Colorado managed just one hit against the 24-year-old left-hander in Wednesday night’s 2-0 loss to the Dodgers that capped their 5-5 road trip. Kyle Parker’s lone single came in the second-inning.

In his last start, he allowed eight runs on eight hits in just 1 2/3 innings. The only other Dodgers to do so, dating back to at least 1914, are Ted Sizemore (1976), Mickey Owen (1944) and Al Lopez (1933 and 1934). He struck out five, walked none and induced 13 ground-ball outs.

“Then come in tonight, thought we commanded the fastball to both sides of the plate and felt the changeup was real good”. Jake Arrieta of the Cubs has a 0.93 ERA since the break, which would rank as only the best of all time.

“I’ve had such poor success against him in the past”, Ellis said.

“He was at the bottom of the zone all night”, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. Catcher A.J. Ellis ran to the backstop, and with no on covering home, Arenado scored without a throw, as Morneau took third on the error and LeMahieu second.

“I think if I can feed off of this”, the right-hander said. Closer Kenley Jansen worked a scoreless ninth for his 32nd save in 34 chances. “When you do that, one or two runs is like eight or nine runs”.

Footage shows Gonzalez running towards the stands during the fifth inning and reaching into the crowd where the man, who was wearing a Boston Red Sox hat, was also preparing for the catch. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly refused to commit to replacing rookie SS Corey Seager in the starting lineup when SS Jimmy Rollins (jammed right knuckle) returns. “If I wouldn’t have had that last one I probably would have put up more of a fight, but 2-0 ballgame, we’re trying to clinch our playoff berth and have some confidence going into this weekend against Pittsburgh. I was fortunate to get out of there with a win”.

“They’re still learning me, and I’m still learning them”, Seager said of the opposing pitchers he’s faced.
