Two men were rolling around with their hands covering their faces as they were swarmed, and another worker was swatting at them with a piece of clothing, they said.
The construction crew was working in the 5200 block of Van Buren Boulevard about 10 a.m. when the attack occurred, according to the Riverside Fire Department.
“It was insane”, worker David Wolf told CBSLA.com (http://cbsloc.al/1KMG7pE).
Workers finally used a water truck to ward off the bees.
A construction worker died after being swarmed by bees – alongside two other workers – that emerged from an underground hive in Riverside on Monday. “It happened pretty quick, really”. A third was treated at the scene for major injuries. “They just kept splitting up and chasing all the other workers”.
According to Perna, one worker had an allergic reaction to the stingers and was transported to Parkview Community Hospital in critical condition.
Riverside firefighters responded to a bee swarm on August. 3, 2015.
He died shortly after, according to media reports.
A bee hive removal worker said the swarm appeared to be an Africanized bee colony.
Soon after the attack, the bees turned docile and returned to their hive, fire officials said.
