World leaders chase goal of gender equality by 2030
These issues are consonant with the main theme of the session which is dedicated to interrelation between gender equality and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“Advancing gender equality through policies, training and information-sharing is a priority for the Government of Yukon and an area where we’re making great progress”, Taylor said Monday.
Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Catherine Russell is on travel to NY, where she will co-head the US delegation attending the 60th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held March 14-24 at UN Headquarters. The session thus will build on the momentum garnered in September 2015 when, in conjunction with the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, more than 90 governments answered UN Women’s call for action to “Step It Up for Gender Equity”.
Mlambo-Ngcuka said that for many women and girls still at risk change is not coming fast enough.
“Women play a vital role as agents of development and the achievement of full human potential and of sustainable development is not possible if one half of humanity continues to be denied its full human rights and opportunities”, it says.
Nana Oye Lithur, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection is the leader of the Ghanaian delegation made up of Members of Parliament, representatives from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Gender Technocrats.
Dubravka Simonovic, the United Nations special investigator on violence against women, said that for the first time since the start of the refugee and migrant crisis in Europe, there are more women and girls on the move than men.
At a side event on enhancing the Participation of Nigerian Women in peace and security, the Minister, Senator Aisha Alhassan, said women and girls have been the most affected in the myriad of conflicts that have ravaged some parts of the country.
“Gender-based violence is a common feature throughout their journeys and within their countries of destination”, she said.
“As long as one woman’s human rights are violated, our struggle is not over”, he insisted, stating that the world is still full of inequalities and injustices for women and girls.
She explained that the Commission was the single largest forum for member states and other stakeholders to commit to new actions for advancement of women and their empowerment.

The 60th session of the CSW, a body created in 1946 to promote the empowerment of women on the planet, began on Monday two weeks of work focused on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
