“It seems that this is a thing of the future, discussing such issues, if we ever start discussing them”, Putin said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope Monday that Russia and the United States could fully normalize their bilateral relations.

Putin and UK Prime Minister Theresa May held a one-on-one meeting early Sunday on the sidelines of the G20 leaders’ summit in Hangzhou, China, Sputnik International reported.

The official said the USA has been focused on making sure that the agreement allows for a “period of calm so that we can get urgently needed humanitarian assistance to populations that are in need”.

Kurtulmus did, however, say that Turkey still expects that the USA will ultimately hand over Gulen, though he conceded it might take some time because of the judiciary process.

On Monday, though the White House official said there had been some “backsliding” since the discussions in Geneva.

Beyond Aleppo, Russia and the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad have continued to refuse to allow United Nations humanitarian aid convoys to enter more than a dozen besieged towns and cities held by various rebel forces.

However, Russia considers several of the groups the USA backs to be “terrorist” organizations and, therefore, legitimate targets.

Obama said there are going to be enough problems in cyberspace with “non-state actors” using the Internet for theft and other illegal purposes, which creates the need for protecting critical infrastructure and securing financial systems.

But he insisted any work toward easing the deeply troubling humanitarian crisis was valuable. “To the extent that there are children and women and innocent civilians who can get food and medical supplies and, you know, get some relief from the constant terror of bombings, that’s worth the effort”. Deep divides over Syria have marred Obama’s relationship with Putin, adding to a litany of discord between the USA and Russian Federation that’s driven relations to their lowest level since the Cold War.

“Clearly, he’s a colorful guy”, Obama said. “The US President is absolutely honest in striving for a resolution of the Syrian conflict”, also calling the US a “key partner” on security issues.

“Our conversations with the Russians are key because, if it were not for the Russians, then Assad and the regime would not be able to sustain its offensive”, he said.
