The world’s busiest airport says it has become the first in the world to top a major passenger milestone.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Sunday hosted its 100 millionth passenger, awarding the lucky traveler a Nissan Altima, two Delta round-trip plane tickets to anywhere around the world and a $500 giftcard, WSB, Atlanta, reported.
For one airline passenger in Atlanta Sunday morning it was not a typical arrival.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed welcomed a surprised Kendrick, who walked down a red carpet as journalists and onlookers recorded the moment. As a result, Chicago’s O’Hare airport had the most flights, but Atlanta still exceeded them in the number of passengers to pass through its gates.
The airport’s general manager Miguel Southwell told an Atlanta station that the airport has hired an accounting firm to “help validate this milestone”.
Atlanta, of course, is anchored by hometown carrier Delta Air Lines. That means just over 277,008 people passed through the airport every single day this year.
But there could be more headwinds on the horizon.
Airport officials used arrival and departure times to identify the 100-millionth passenger for 2015.

Hartsfield-Jackson has held the title of the world’s busiest airport in terms of passengers for more than 15 years and served more than 96 million passengers in 2014, according to Airports Council International.
