World’s first washable smartphone to debut in Japan

The outlet cited a study that found smartphones to have 10 times more bacteria and having more fecal matter than a toilet seat.

The Rafre has 2 GB RAM with 16 GB internal storage that can be extendable up to 128 GB through a microSD card. But it’s only now that KDDI and Kyocera, two popular Japanese firms, have come up with a soap-proof smartphone Digno Rafre.

Download the Gadgets 360 app for Android and iOS to stay up to date with the latest tech news, product reviews, and exclusive deals on the popular mobiles. It supports 4G LTE and WiMAX plus VoLTE and its 3,000mAh battery should last over 20 hours of VoLTE calls. The smartphone has IP58 ratings and features a self-healing rear panel, which we have already seen in LG G Flex smartphones. The Rafre comes with a Rubber dock which doesn’t let it sink in water. Kyocera even dispensed with the speakers in favour of a “Smart Sonic Receiver” that sends audio via vibrations through the screen. The handset is available in three color variants such as Coral Pink, Cashmere White, and Marin Navy. The front is cocooned in Dragontrail X glass, which might sound like a processor, but is Asahi Glass’ latest toughened (flexible!) glass. Not all soaps are suitable for cleaning these smartphones as there are only certain types of foamy soap that could be used on the device, which will only be sold in Japan for now.
