That set the stage for their “60 Minutes” interview, which was taped Saturday with reporter Lesley Stahl and aired Sunday.

As Pence tried to pivot to calling Trump a “good man who’s been talking about the issues the American people care about”, Trump interjected.

“He’s entitled to make a mistake every once in a while”, Trump said of Pence, who was a congressman from in at the time. “We don’t need another big mouth from Congress, quite frankly, to go there, who has never been responsible for anything, never been responsible for producing results”.

Protesters say they’re also concerned with the pair’s stance on abortion and LGBT rights, not to mention, Mr Trump’s controversial rhetoric.

Pressed by Stahl, Trump said, “It’s a long time ago”. “I didn’t ask him to do it, but I don’t think he should do it because it’s different for him”.

At a formal announcement in NY on Saturday, Trump also acknowledged that one of the reasons he selected Pence was to promote unity within the Republican Party.

“To a great extent New Jersey is a microcosm of what’s going on in the Republican Party nationally”, Harrison said.

“No. She’s not”, Trump said.

That’s why fans of “Periods for Pence” have have been inundating the governor’s office with calls about their reproductive or menstrual activity.

“Some people say your daughter would be your best surrogate”, Stahl says.

It wasn’t until later that year that Trump began expressing his opposition to the war.

“I speak from my heart and my brain”, Trump said.

Yet the real estate mogul was unfazed by the apparent fault lines between the two men, claiming that he and Pence were close during the Republican primaries, even though Pence endorsed Trump’s primary season rival, Sen. When pointed out that Pence also voted for war in Iraq as did his Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Trump said the Indiana Governor is entitled to make mistake once in a while, but the former Secretary of State is not. “I thought Pence did fine but it was all I thought”.
