Wouldn’t have happened if he still ran Miss Universe
From President Juan Manuel Santos to Miss Colombia’s relatives in the Caribbean port city of Barranquilla, millions of Colombians who tuned in for Sunday’s pageant screamed joyously when it was announced that Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo had won this year’s crown. Her reign had to end abruptly as Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines, had to wear the crown as the real victor.

That led Spanish-language network Univision to pull out of the broadcast for what would have been the first of five years airing the pageants and NBC to cut business ties with Mr Trump.
Harvey wrote on Twitter: “I’d like to apologise wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”. The crown was then removed from Gutierrez and placed on Alonzo’s head. “I have to apologize”.
“I felt sorry for both candidates… and for all the Filipinos… who were watching live”.
“Everything happens for a reason so I’m happy”, she said in a video posted on the Miss Universe Facebook page.
After Gutierrez-Arévalo was crowned and was performing the ritual wave to the audience inside the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino, Harvey came back on stage to deliver the awkward and devastating news.
“Let me just take control of this”.
The competition, which aired live on Fox, was hosted by comedian Steve Harvey and featured contestants from 80 countries between the ages of 19 and 27. Colombia was listed as the first runner-up, and he’d been confused with how it was written. Harvey, known as the host of “Family Feud” and “The Steve Harvey Show”, said it was his mistake and that he would take responsibility for not reading the card correctly. “Still, it’s a great night”. Don’t hold it against the ladies. Unless it’s a brutally painful contestant answer or a mistake like this we pay very little attention to these events.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wurtzbach said there was absolute confusion after Harvey clarified the mix-up. You’re not actually Miss Universe; Miss Philippines is. She said she has no problem with it.
At a post-event press conference, she said: “The two emotions that I’m feeling now is joy that I won and concern for Ariadna…”
She was crowned by another Colombian beauty – Paulina Vega, who had clinched the crown in 2014.
“What happened to the girl from Colombia was devastating”, Trump said Monday.
For her part, Miss Colombia handled it the error with style and grace.
