Wounded in New Orleans Mass Shooting

The father of a 10-year-old boy who was among 17 people wounded in a shooting at a New Orleans park says an acquaintance warned him shortly before the shootout.

He says none of the injuries is life-threatening, but he doesn’t know yet how many people were hospitalized.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is adamant about putting those involved behind bars.

“I saw the police coming, and I ran over to them”, she said. But Landrieu has said that is the result of hard choices made after he inherited an $80 million budget deficit in 2010.

Police said eleven of the victims were under the age of 21. “As the officers were within one block, they heard shots that were fired”.

Police originally said that 16 people had been injured, but confirmed Monday that a 17th victim had been identified.

The harms in the Ninth Ward neighborhood of the city’s were from gunshots in addition to other unspecified causes, police chief and the town ‘s mayor said during a press conference close to the scene.

Large stadium lights lit up the park Sunday as police continued to analyze the crime scene.

In their account of the statement, witnesses claimed to have seen at least two gunmen shoot out among the crowd.

Police spokesman Tyler Gamble said Sunday that neither the block party nor the music video crew had a permit to use the playground named after Henry “Bunny” Friend, who was 18 when he died in 1924.

Police believe the shooting was gang related.

“If you want to take back your community, you have to help us”, Landrieu said.

“No one feels safe”, said Peter Scharf, a professor who studies crime at the Louisiana State University School of Public Health.
