Wounded Pennsylvania officer to be released from hospital

The Folcroft Borough Police Department posted a Facebook photo of Dorman speaking with Chesney on the phone while he rested in the hospital. Dorman had been shot seven times in the line of duty, but was recovering in a local hospital, ABC reported.

Before the shooting happened, Dorman had planned to attend Chesney’s concert.

During his Saturday night concert at Lincoln Financial Field, Chesney said he got “caught up in the moment” and misspoke when he told fans that Dorman had passed away. Here’s to a speedy recovery! “In the hospital on his bed…he passed away, but before he passed away he made a video that he wanted to come tonight so bad, and he said, ‘Kenny, please don’t forget me, ‘” Chesney said at the show.

Chesney honored the officer at his show, although he was apparently misinformed about Dorman’s status. “@FolcroftPD He’s doing great”.

After his release today Dorman thanked his supporters and fellow officers, telling reporters he feels “good” and is “ready to get back to work”. “IDK WHAT KENNY CHESNEY WAS THINKING WHEN HE SAID THAT AT HIS CONCERT TONIGHT!!” the department tweeted from its official account. “And when I heard the cheer they sent up when I sent our best to Officer Dorman, man, everything I’ve ever thought about the people of Philadelphia was confirmed”, Chesney said.

Folcroft police tweeted Sunday that Chesney “just called … to apologize and wish him the best” and said “he wants to take him to a football game and get some beers”. Police captured the alleged gunman, 33-year-old Donte Brooks Island, who is also known as Abdul Wahi, early Friday afternoon. He was arraigned Friday on attempted murder and related charges; he is being held on $1 million bail, awaiting a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, July 6, court records said.
