Iceland-based WOW, a low-priced transatlantic airline, will expand to San Francisco and Los Angeles in June, with introductory fares of $99 each way between the West Coast and its home country.
And like other budget European airlines, the Iceland-based WOW Air charges passengers extra fees for carry on and checked luggage, reserving seats and other services. Flights to San Francisco begin on June 9 and will run five times a week.
“Let’s take a look at the 199 United States dollars one-way flight from San Francisco to Frankfurt”.
“If the rates seem too good to be true, it’s because they are”, Buzzfeed journalist Nicole Nguyen says about Wow Air’s cheap flights from San Francisco to Europe. Connecting flights are available to 21 European destinations.
The carrier now operates its existing US services on a year-round basis and it consistently maintains load factors carrier loads of more than 90 per cent on the flights, according to Wow Air. Those one-way tickets will start at $199.
The first wide-body planes in the WOW fleet – new Airbus A330-300 aircraft – will fly these routes from California. If you want to be sure you have seats together, the cheapest available allocated seats were £4 each to Iceland and then £17 each for the second leg on to San Francisco.
“This is a game-changer for WOW air, and arguably the travel industry, making travel to the U.S. and Iceland both easy and affordable from Ireland”, said Skúli Mogensen, founder and CEO of WOW air.
“We are really pioneering the low-priced model on long-haul flights”, Mogensen said to Forbes.
