WOW air to fly Iceland-Miami from April 2017
Thankfully, Miamians will be able to get far out of town for cheap next summer: Starting in April, the Icelandic budget-airline WOW Air will begin offering transatlantic flights from Miami International Airport to Reykjavik, Iceland for $99 one-way.

On Thursday, Icelandic low-priced carrier WOW air announced plans to begin thrice-weekly, nonstop service between Miami and Reykjavik’s Keflavík International Airport, with an expected start date of April 5. WOW will operate the route with its Airbus A330 widebody jets. That means travelers can fly round-trip to Iceland for a base fare of less than $200, though it would be hard to avoid additional fees with WOW’s fee-heavy pricing structure.
The new Miami-to-Reykjavik route also will provide connectivity for South Florida travelers to other major European cities, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dublin, Copenhagen, WOW said. Since then, it has added Boston, Newark, Los Angeles and San Francisco airports to its US network.
“Miami is a place I know personally and the city has a lot to offer”, said Skúli Mogensen, chief operating officer of WOW Air, who once lived in the city.

“Not only does this launch give our Southeast American travellers an affordable opportunity to travel overseas, it gives our European travellers access to the handsome tropical beaches and active nightlife of this great city”. “Aside from being MIA’s first-ever service to Iceland, WOW’s launch into the Miami market will also mark our fourth Nordic country and 23rd route to Europe – the most in the 88-year history of our airport. Congratulations to WOW air and also to MIA, for landing another key worldwide route and for adding to its roster of 103 airlines – the most of any USA airport”.
