Wrestler celebrates gold medal by body-slamming coach onto mat

Japanese wrestler Risako Kawai celebrated winning Olympic gold in the most freakish fashion.

Risako Kawai then paraded Kazuhito Sakae around the arena on her shoulders, delighting the crowd with her celebration.

Maybe Sakae trained Kawai a bit too well.

After it’s all over the two embrace each other for a hug and Kawai puts him atop her shoulders with the Japanese flag and the duo run across the gym floor waving it proudly.

Apparently this kind of celebration is common practice in wrestling, too – Cuba’s Mijain Lopez did the same thing to his coach earlier in the week, albeit with a bit less flair than Kawai. The 21-year-old won gold in her Olympic debut and she celebrated by doing a little of what got her there in the first place.

Sakae, 56, is a retired wrestler who won several medals in the men’s 62kg class at Asian and world level between 1983 and 1989.

This was Kawai’s first Olympic Games. Wouldn’t you know it, she brought home the gold, defeating Belarus’ Maryia Mamashuk in the final match.
