Wrestler Narsingh Yadav fails dope test, 2016 Rio Olympic spot in jeopardy
The development has cast doubt on his participation in Rio Games.

India’s wrestling contender in the 74kg category, Narsingh Yadav, may not be able to participate in Rio Olympics 2016 as he has failed a dope test conducted by NADA(National Anti-Doping Agency). Yadav’s report of the “A” sample came out positive, and the wrestler was asked to give a “B” sample which also turned out positive.
But Narsingh was favoured as he had earned the Olympic quota in the World Championships a year ago.
Agarwal said it was too early to say if Yadav’s Rio hopes are over. “I can not speculate on that”.
According to a report in The Telegraph, Narsingh will not be able to make it to Rio after he was stopped from accompanying the Indian wrestling team to the preparatory camp in Georgia. The wrestler has tested positive for a banned steroid with his Olympic accreditation being withheld for the moment.
Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry in a press release also confirmed that a wrestler has failed a dope test even though it desisted from giving out Yadav’s name.
Singh reasoned that it would be entirely stupid of a sportsman to consume prohibited substances, especially with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and NADA keeping such a close eye on athletes who are bound for the Rio Olympics which begin on August 5.

The panel had asked NADA for further details and should return with a verdict within one week, NADA Director General Navin Agarwal said by telephone. An Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel(ADDP) has been constituted by NADA under its rules for hearing the case. “NADA is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to check doping in sports”, the Ministry stated.
