Author Daniel Handler – who goes by the alias Lemony Snicket – has made a big donation.

In a 2007 article, Handler wrote on his wealth and success, and how he wished to use it to help others and organizations such as Planned Parenthood, according to the article in the New York Times. “We’ve been very fortunate, and good fortune should be shared with noble causes”.

The fact that the title of Handler’s book series reflected the embattled women’s health organization’s current situation was not lost on Brown.

According to the latest annual report and in line with Republican Presidential candidate Jeb Bush’s claims, Planned Parenthood receives $500 million per year from the USA government, making it the largest contributor to the organization.

But the Planned Parenthood defends its practice as the legal donation of tissue to research firms.

On their website, the non-profit organization that provides reproductive health as well as mother and child health services, is urging supporters to help.

Fortunately for women, President Obama threatened to veto the Republican bill if necessary, and a slew of celebrities – including Lena Dunham, Kerry Washington and Elizabeth Banks – came out in support of Planned Parenthood.

After the announcement Planned Parenthood thanked them on twitter and many supporters also expressed support and gratitude.
