WWE Battleground: Dean Ambrose battles former Shield partners, Bayley debuts

One thing that we know we can expect is that there is no world champion on WWE RAW right now as both Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns failed to get the victory over Dean Ambrose at Battleground, leaving us here.

In terms of the women’s division, WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte and her protege Dana Brooke kicked off Battleground by taking on Sasha Banks and a mystery partner in a highly-completive tag-team match. The Wyatt Family are being split with Bray and Erick Rowan moving to Smackdown, but the Wyatts winning this match seems to put them in line for a tag title shot.

The feud between John Cena and AJ Styles shows no signs of stopping though after Cena teamed up with Enzo Amore and Big Cass to defeat The Club.

Randy Orton made his WWE return after nine months on the sidelines with a shoulder injury and appeared on Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel interview segment. It could’ve definitely used three to five more minutes, and while I never expected Rusev to lose his championship just yet, this should’ve been a platform for Ryder to continue pursuing singles glory. Wyatt capitalizes on Woods’s fears and hits Sister Abigail on Woods for the win.

If you are also one of the fans who is looking forward to seeing Bayley being a full-time member of the main roster, then we have what will probably prove bad news for you because according to the former champion herself she is not here to stay, at least for now. When Zayn and Owens were finally back in the ring, there was some magic on display as the two men were dipping into their full arsenal of moves.

Ryder hits the Rough Ryder, then tries to get the exclamation point with an El-bro Drop, but Rusev gets his knees up for the counter. But not only did he not win, he was pinned cleanly (without any weird shenanigans) by Ambrose, the underdog of the trio.

With the odds stacked against him, defending champion Ambrose of Smackdown, stopped at nothing to remain the top guy in the industry, even working with Rollins to help neutralize the amped up Reigns.

This is evident in the blockbuster main event of “WWE Battleground”, with three of the former Shield members doing battle against each other for the WWE Championship. No surprise with the finish, as you knew they’re building to a Banks/Charlotte one-on-one match for the title at Summerslam. But it was US Champ Rusev who retained his title after locking Ryder into the Accolade and keeping him in it until Mojo Rawley saved him. The match was really fun while it lasted, with both men trading sick, hard-hitting blows.

Earlier in the evening, Tyler Breeze & Fandango, aka Breezango, beat The Usos on the WWE Kickoff pre-show to record the first major win of their partnership.

Maryse convinces The Miz that Bob Backlund hit her outside the ring, and The Miz pushes Backlund down.

Solid match as Natalya worked with several submissions, making Becky tap out to the Sharpshooter. “Congratulations to #SmackDownLive’s @WWE Champion @TheDeanAmbrose!”
