Xbox Game Preview, ID@Xbox titles coming to Windows 10 this year

Microsoft is already working with several third-party peripheral manufacturers to produce devices which boast Xbox Wireless support.

However, if PC owners wish you use those same accessories they need a wireless dongle to enjoy the same cable-free luxury.

Move over Steam Early Access and GOG Games in Development and the ilk, because here comes Microsoft with the Xbox Game Preview programme for Windows 10. It’s a safe bet that other studios will follow suit and enter the program in order to see how their games fare in their early stages. If you haven’t been following, recently it was announced that PC gamers wanting to use an Xbox controller with their PC could do so wirelessly on the new Xbox One controller with an adapter or Bluetooth as opposed to the standard wired plugin. Products that support the feature will have an Xbox Wireless logo on the box. The program is, of course, one of the venues where the company would release its new backward compatible games. Astro, HyperX, Plantronics, Razer, SteelSeries and Turtle Beach are all on-board in terms of making accessories that can be used with both built-in and adapter-based Xbox Wireless. According to Microsoft, the first implementations will essentially be an Xbox Wireless Adapter and integrated inside the physical chassis of the PC, but the firm plans to enable direct integration of Xbox Wireless into PC motherboards going forward too.

Now, with Xbox Wireless, that’s getting taken a step further. At some point, we’ll presumably see a line of accessories – controllers, headsets, joysticks – that are cross-compatible with both Xbox One and PC. Lenovo is the first official Microsoft partner to provide built-in support for Xbox Wireless devices. So Microsoft is allowing gaming PC makers to add Xbox Wireless capabilities to their PCs.
