Xbox One S gets the iFixit teardown treatment

The Xbox One S has arrived and iFixit are back once again with another tear down, and while the console scores pretty highly for repairability, there are a few other surprises under the white case. “Our guides for the original Xbox One controllers should do the job for both generations”. They measure a 7% GPU jump from 853MHz to 914MHz along with an ESRAM bandwidth jump from 218GB/s to 204GB/s. The deconstruction of the Xbox One S reveals a much tighter design, which allows the system to occupy 42 percent less space than its predecessor.

Released on August 2, the Xbox One S comes at an interesting time for Microsoft. If you didn’t know better, you could’ve sworn that Master Chief took up residence inside the console. Chances are you’ll never see it for real, unless you fancy voiding your warranty.

Posting on Twitter, Mike Ybarra, the Director of Program Management for Xbox showed off a picture of the hidden Chief. During this teardown a little Easter Egg was discovered, a tiny little Master Chief etched right on the optical disc drive bracket. Awh.
