XC Squads Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

For the first time since 2009 and for the first time ever, respectively, the Adams Statewomen and Colorado Mines men have been named the 2015 NCAA Division II Cross Country Scholar Teams of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The men’s team finished with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.36, and stood as one of 171 squads honored.

“I’m very proud of both the men’s and women’s teams this year”, said head coach Logan Davis, “They worked hard all season on the course and in the classroom and community”.

Jacob Thomson and Katy Kunc also earned individual All-Academic honors.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the women’s basketball academic all-league team consisted of 39 first-team members combined with 11 on the second team.

He was a top-10 finisher at Southeast Regionals.

On the men’s team, Mark Fairley (sophomore, Dubuque), Tanner Rathje (sophomore, Marion, Linn-Mar HS), Jon Specht (sophomore, Dubuque, Hempstead HS) Isaac Steffensmeier (junior, Fort Madison) were honored individually for the Dutch.

Montoya, a junior health science studies major, earned the honor for a second-straight season. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
