Xherdan Shaqiri could face Aston Villa, says Stoke boss Mark Hughes

Stoke got their first win of the season against Bournemouth last week, and I don’t think there was ever any doubt that the Potters were going to improve.

Stoke City have only one win themselves, but this came last weekend, also against Bournemouth, giving them added momentum to take to their visit to Villa Park.

Defender Marc Wilson looks likely to remain sidelined by a calf injury, while Mame Diouf and Ibrahim Afellay are both vying for a recall.

We’ll give him a little bit more time.

“We are in good spirits at the moment and looking forward to the game”.

It’s been almost two months since Aston Villa last won a match in the Premier League, and aside from a late-August draw against Sunderland, it’s been all losing in the meantime.

Stoke have averaged 1.43 points per game in the PL away at Villa Park.

The summer signing bought from Inter Milan for £12 million (fee via BBC) missed the first two games of the season, one being served for a suspension carrying over from Italy, and could be set to miss another match.

Although there’s still a long way to go, much of what happens this campaign for Villa could be influenced by the 20-year old, including the game on Saturday.

Stoke City is seventeenth in the league with 6 points having won 1 game, drawn 3 and lost 3. With a winning goal last weekend, things could just finally click for the 27-year old which could prove vitally important for a team struggling to score enough.

Stoke City’s back line will have to encounter the threat posed by Rudy Gestede. The visitors should edge it, in my opinion.
