Xiaomi has announced a new product today as part of the Mi Ecosystem product, Mi Robot Vacuum.
As with Xiaomi’s modus operandi, the Mi Robot Vacuum is priced at a fraction of that of the competition, at 1,699 RMB ($254). Now, this robot vacuum seems to be quite interesting though, as it sports really interesting internals.
Mi Robot Vacuum is a smart device which maps the home and cleans it continuously and avoiding any obstacles.
Sensor paraphernalia on the Mi Robot Vacuum include 12 sensors with Laser Distance Sensor (LDS), ultrasonic radar sensor, cliff sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer. In other words, you won’t have to worry about the Mi Robot Vacuum falling down the stairs or bumping into things. On top of that, the Mi Robot Vacuum comes with the Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm, which allows it to map up your home, and then calculate its cleaning path based on those calculations. The main brush in Mi Robot Vacuum automatically adjusts height to create tight seal with floor for dirt pick-up on uneven surfaces.

The cleaning robot, called Mi Robot Vacuum, is being launched with a price tag of 1,699 yuan (HK$1,974) and will go on sale September 6, Xiaomi’s co-founder and vice president Liu De said at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday. By calculating the most efficient route on the fly (which it claims to beat others at as well), its 5,200 mAh 14.4V lithium ion battery will cover 250 square meters of space – which takes about 2.5 hours – on a single charge. Consumers in China will be able to purchase this device through Mi.com and at Mi Home stores in the country.
