Xiaomi unveils their Mi5 flagship with three models
Staying with Xiaomi’s strategy of undercutting global giants like Samsung and Apple, the Mi 5 aims to provide speedy processing and light weight at a relatively low cost.

The Smartphone was announced in Beijing today. This version should sell in India between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 if you convert the China pricing.

As per Xiaomi, the Mi 5 has clocked an impressive 142,084 AnTuTu score which they claim has never been achieved by a smartphone. The Mi5 Pro comes with a 3D ceramic cover and 128 GB storage with 4 GB RAM whereas the Mi5 comes with a 3D glass cover and 3 GB RAM with 64 GB storage. Available colours include black, white and gold.
The Mi 5 comes with a Sony IMX298 16 megapixel sensor with dual-tone LED flash, PDAF, OIS, and 4K video recording. While it’s possible to parallel import, you won’t see a Xiaomi phone on local store shelves.
Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun shared, “Mi 5 is truly all you ever imagined, and more”.
Despite all the technicalities we’ve heard, the most important feature of Xiaomi phones is the price, and the company did not disappoint here. In China previous year, the average price of a Xiaomi phone was $141, IDC said. It comes with a similar design as the Mi Note device that has been released a year ago, with rear and front glass panels, a metal frame and a fingerprint sensor that’s integrated into the home button. It is Powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC processor which is clubbed with a range-topping 4GB LPDDR4 RAM (on 128GB only) and an Adreno 530 GPU.

The Mi 5 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow alongside Xiaomi’s MIUIO 7 software and also has support for full NFC and Cat 12 LTE, which in theory should give download speeds of up to 600Mbps – if such a service exists in your region. There’s also a USB Type-C connector on the bottom of the phone.
