Yankees complete trade sending closer Aroldis Chapman to Cubs
The Yankees also acquire prospects Billy McKinney and shortstop Gleyber Torres – the latter of whom is one of the top prospects in Chicago’s farm system.

They received a heralded prospect for the future and a key pitcher from their recent past.
According to a report from Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, the Cubs have acquired star reliever Aroldis Chapman from the New York Yankees in exchange for four players.
The first domino of the 2016 Yankees roster has fallen, but Brian Cashman scored a nice haul. He’s been ranked by many as the best prospect in the Cubs system, and one of the 20 best in the United States at the moment, added by the Cubs in 2013 during their big splurge on global talent. It’s not the first move he’s made this trade season, and it probably won’t be the last (though it might be the biggest).
MLB.com reported that Torres, 19, was scratched from the lineup before his game Sunday at Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach.
It’s fascinating that Warren is returning to the organization after an unsuccessful sojourn with the Cubs in half a season.
Nova, 29, has posted a 7-5 record and 4.65 ERA in 20 starts for the Yankees in his third straight rough season.
The Cubs originally acquired Warren in an earlier trade with the Yankees that sent Starlin Castro to NY.
“We’re disappointed we swung and missed in our efforts to sign him as an global free agent back in the 2013 class, but certainly you keep your eyes on players you’ve liked in the past and he was definitely a target for us”, Cashman said. Chapman is 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA and 20 saves for the Yankees after he served a 30-game suspension under MLB’s domestic violence policy earlier this season. And the long search for “another Adam Warren” to bridge the gap is likely to be Warren himself. He was also fined about $12,700 – the cost of the destroyed jerseys – according to a person familiar with the penalty.
Chapman has been the subject of intense interest as the Yankees seem to be willing to be sellers as the trade deadline approaches.
NY had won six of eight games heading into Monday night’s game at Houston, but still faces long odds of getting to the playoffs.

Sources said he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, which puts him back in the NL Central where he played for the Cincinnati Reds prior to signing with the New York Yankees.
