We can now close the book on Ben Zobrist’s short, but productive time with the KC Royals. In the outfield, the team has Kyle Schwarber, Jorge Soler, and Javier Baez among their options. NY will send pitcher Adam Warren and infielder Brendan Ryan to Chicago.
Zobrist receives a full no-trade clause over the first three years of the deal, according to a report by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The Yankees don’t have the former, but they do have young left-handed hitting center fielders Mason Williams and Slade Heathcott, as Sherman mentioned as well.
In 151 games last season, Castro hit.
Since Jim Hendry, one of general manager Brian Cashman’s top lieutenants, signed Castro in 2006 and brought him to the big leagues in 2010 when Hendry was the Cubs’ GM, the Yankees know the player very well.
The 28-year-old Warren was went 7-7 with a 3.29 ERA last season.
The Cubs were a late entrant into the race for Zobrist, who chose them over the Mets after being courted by the Nationals, Giants and Dodgers.
The Cubs are looking for cost-controlled starting pitching and outfielders.
Prior to the switch, Castro had a. 570 OPS.

Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman is happy with the move, telling reporters, including YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits that “I like that he’s athletic… Can play multiple positions and adds balance to [the] lineup”. The duo was expected to platoon at the position in 2016 but with a full-time second baseman aboard, that is no longer necessary.
