Yankees pitcher Bryan Mitchell his in head by line drive
During the second inning of Monday night’s Yankees game against the Twins, New York pitcher Bryan Mitchell left with an ugly injury.

In the top of the second inning, Minnesota Twins shortstop Eduardo Nunez hit a sharp line drive right back to Mitchell. Mitchell was released from New York-Presbyterian Hospital after a full evaluation, but the Yankees’ doctors will continue to monitor him for a possible concussion. But the bottom line each season has been disappointingly consistent, with the high point, as it were, being his 4.78 ERA in 2013. Mitchell was replaced by Caleb Cotham.

Although New York regained first place of the AL East this weekend, Joe Girardi’s side knows they still have their work cut out for them. Well, things got pretty scary in this one early, and hopefully Yankees pitcher Bryan Mitchell will be alright. Rookie Luis Severino fell to 0-2 with all three runs plated through six frames which was to much for the Yanks four hit attack that produced a Jacoby Ellsbury solo homer. It was not immediately clear where the ball struck the pitcher, who had absolutely no time to react to the hard hit drive.
