Yankees Pitcher CC Sabathia Checks into Alcohol Rehab Center

The New York Yankees and Houston Astros are set for the American League wild card game and the matchup will be on Tuesday from Yankee Stadium starting up past 8 pm ET on ESPN. Sabathia will not be available for the 2015 postseason and he will return next season.

The statement said the 35-year-old is seeking “the professional care and assistance needed to treat my disease”.

Ivan Nova is now the lone Yankee starter with playoff experience. The victor of that game will advance to a division series against the Kansas City Royals. Sabathia represents so much of what they covet now, doing his part to add to the legacy of 27 World Series titles, his MVP effort having anchored the last one in 2009.

Sabathia is the only pitcher remaining from the team’s 2009 postseason run to a 27th World Championship.

“As hard as this decision is to share publicly, I don’t want to run and hide”.

“Being an adult means being accountable”, Sabathia concluded in the statement.

Personal problems, family problems or health problems always take precedence over employment issues, especially when your job is something as trivial as pitching for a baseball team, which when you come right down to it is just one more form of entertainment.

We know that a couple months back he found himself on a video outside a Toronto nightclub that portrayed a CC Sabathia we weren’t familiar with – angry, belligerent, missing a shoe. They’ll be without him at a time when it really seemed Sabathia could help them again. The pitcher took matters into his own hands, posting the same photo on Instagram with the hashtags #ItsOnlyACigar and #MiniCigarillos.

A number of Yankees said they would try to win Tuesday – and beyond – for Sabathia.

He continued, “I want to thank the New York Yankees organization for their encouragement and understanding”. His deal includes a 2017 club option that would become guaranteed if his left shoulder doesn’t get hurt.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Sabathia informed him of his alcohol abuse during a telephone call on Sunday afternoon.

“We play for CC now”, Alex Rodriguez said.

CC Sabathia hasn’t pitched well the past three seasons.

He also is widely respected among media and teammates and had his locker moved to former captain Derek Jeter’s space inside the clubhouse.

“I just flipped out, you know”. “And I think obviously now he’s raised his hand and said, I need someone to help and guide me through a few circumstances that are really tough….”
