Yankees promote Sanchez and insert him into lineup as the DH

New York Yankees prospect Gary Sanchez got his first major league hit on Wednesday night with a single off New York Mets reliever Hansel Robles.

Sanchez was the DH against Mets left-hander Steven Matz on Wednesday, meaning the young catcher played instead of the increasingly irrelevant Alex Rodriguez.

Sanchez’s drive to center field came on an 0-1 pitch off a 97.3 miles per hour fastball from Mets reliever Hansel Robles. The 23-year-old spent one day with the Yankees earlier this season, and is 0-for-6 with two strikeouts in his career at the highest level.

Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin could also be promoted from Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of the September 1 roster expansions.

Sanchez was batting.282 (80-for-284) with 21 doubles, 10 homers, 50 RBI and an.807 OPS in 71 games at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. “I just kept working hard”.

Of course, there’s still the matter of Brian McCann having two more years on his contract, though McCann could end up back on the trading block following this season – especially if Sanchez lives up to the hype.

“I’m hoping that this time, I’ll get more playing time”, Sanchez said to Miller. He joined the organization as amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2009. “He has the ability to hit the ball out of the ballpark everywhere”, Girardi said.
