Yankees RF Beltran out of lineup with shoulder tightness

New York Yankees’ Starlin Castro reacts as he crosses home plate after his two-run home run off Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi during the seventh inning of a baseball game Sunday, May 29, 2016, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Evan Longoria had a sacrifice fly during a three-run first, boosted the lead to 5-0 with a two-run homer in the second and chased Pineda with an RBI single in the fourth that made it 6-1. Through his first 11 starts (61 2/3 innings), Odorizzi owns a 3.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 51/17 K/BB ratio.

Girardi said Ackley would remain in Tampa for an MRI and that a DL stint for him was “a distinct possibility”.

“My control was more reliable and I had better movement today”, Tanaka said.

Chase Utley, who was booed all night in his return to Citi Field, hit a tying three-run double off Jeurys Familia with two outs in a four-run ninth inning for the Dodgers before Granderson’s homer, which moved NY back into the NL East lead, by percentage points over Washington.

Carlos Beltran homered in the eighth for the Yankees, leaving him one hit shy of 2,500 for his career. That was the first time the Yankees have one a game with 1 hit since 1914 and the first time they’ve won a game by scoring more than one run on one hit since 1913.

The Yankees (23-24) have won seven of nine with six of those coming on the road. “I saw the doctor yesterday and he said that it should go away in a couple days, so I’m not anxious”. But the right-hander had his own game to focus on.

Archer (3-6) allowed four runs – one earned – and four hits in eight innings for the Rays, who have lost six of seven. Eovaldi was mostly able to avoid any big innings, but he did have a scare in the sixth when the Rays loaded the bases before he managed to shut them down.

This time, the frustration wasn’t almost as all-encompassing even when the no-hitter was intact.

Brett Gardner took a 3-2 pitch with one out in the seventh to draw the Yankees’ first walk and become their second baserunner. “Gardy had a nice walk, and I was just looking for pitches I could drive”.

Chapman’s final pitch came in at 102 miles per hour.

Rays: 2B Logan Forsythe (left shoulder) will take his first swings Monday or Tuesday since getting hurt in early May. “I feel strong. I feel good”.

Girardi hinted that he’s likely to give Beltran a day at DH this weekend, since he’s not thrilled with the notion of Beltran playing three straight games on artificial turf.

Odorizzi shrugged off Miller’s error – Miller bobbled Dustin Ackley’s grounder – and got the next batter, Ronald Torreyes, to hit into a double play.

The Rays challenged the play, which was upheld on video replay. No longer ideal but with the no-hitter intact, Odorizzi induced a Ronald Torreyes double play three pitches later, keeping the no-no alive through six.

Eric Hosmer homered and drove in four runs, one shy of his career high, and Whit Merrifield singled in two runs in a four-run seventh as Kansas City came from behind to top Chicago.

Pineda was in trouble from the start, hitting Brandon Guyer and giving up a double to Brad Miller. Only get one hit, and I don’t think we left anybody on base either.
