The New York Yankees had a 0.84 bullpen ERA coming into Wednesday’s game, but Ivan Nova let up four earned runs to help drive that ERA to 2.34.

As for Toronto, they’re 4-0 in Stroman’s last four starts during game three of a series, and 6-1 in Stroman’s last seven starts against the American League East.

Yankees second. B.McCann walked on a full count. He struck out four.Left-handed reliever Brett Cecil, who has been struggling, took over in the seventh for Happ with the Blue Jays leading 3-1 and had a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.

It was the only hit of the game for Tex, but he leads the New York Yankees with three home runs.

The Blue Jays play the New York Yankees on Wednesday and Thursday.

McCann, who took a foul tip off his left big toe Tuesday night, said he felt fortunate he didn’t have a broken toe.

The game plan was in place and despite Sanchez’s wild curveball and the frustration of another loss – the Jays are 3-5 – there was a lot to like about his execution.

New York’s Ronald Torreyes led off the top of the fifth with a double, his second hit of the game, and he took third on a single by Austin Romine. Bautista brought them both home with a booming double to center. Quantrill underwent Tommy John surgery last March after three starts.

It wasn’t the big bats in the middle of the Toronto lineup that gave Pineda fits, it was a one-out walk in the second inning and a leadoff walk in the fifth, each against hitters in the bottom third of the order. He walked three and struck out four.

The Blue Jays’ hitters are a formidable bunch, with the capability of rattling off runs in bushels. He issued two walks in the second inning and was charged with an error when a pickoff attempt at second base sailed wide.

The Jays plan with Venditte is to slide him into a bullpen that is ranked 19th for ERA in the majors heading into tonights game versus the New York Yankees. Happ did not figure in the decision against the Tampa Bay Rays in his first start of the season, April 6, when he allowed seven hits, one walk and two runs in six innings.

Blood was drained from the nail to relieve the pressure late Tuesday night and McCann went through a light pregame workout Wednesday. Brett Cecil relieved Sanchez and immediately found himself in a jam, allowing a single to Chase Headley and a walk to Castro.

“The changeup, I think, could be a very effective pitch for him”, said Walker.

“He was dead in the water if I make a good throw”, said Sanchez. “We believe we have a great team offensively, overall I feel like we have a great team”.

Yankees: Suspended LHP Aroldis Chapman threw off a mound Monday and is expected to pitch in an extended spring training game this week.

Venditte appeared in 26 games with Oakland last season.

“It was just a matter of time before we finally barrelled a couple of balls and found some holes”, said Ryan Goins, who had a pair of doubles among his three hits and knocked in a pair of runs.

On Friday ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte struck out two of the three batters he faced in the eighth inning with the Bisons up 8-1 on Pawtucket. On Saturday he struck out all three batters he faced with a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning
