After playing a combination of Darwin Barney and Russell Martin at second base against the New York Yankees in a 6-0 loss on Tuesday, it appears Travis’ time to return is now.

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis has been reinstated from the disabled list and immediately inserted into the starting lineup against the New York Yankees.

Carlos Beltran homered off knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (2-6) and drove in New York’s first two runs. Before the win last night, the Yankees hadn’t been at.500 since they were 4-4 on April 15th.

New York’s relievers continued to silence the Blue Jays bats late in the game, and the Bronx Bombers continued to pile on the runs in the eighth. Girardi called on righty Dellin Betances again Tuesday night, which some might argue is becoming an alarming trend, but lefties Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman weren’t needed and will thus be available the rest of this Blue Jays series.

However, in the top of the fourth inning, Nova couldn’t hold the lead as he surrendered a two-run single to Ryan Goins and the Blue Jays took the lead at 2-1. Ellsbury tripled leading off when Bautista made an ill-advised attempt for a diving backhand catch, allowing the ball to roll to the right-field scoreboard. Later in the inning, Didi Gregorius hits his fourth home run of the season, also a solo shot, off Estrada, and the score went to 7-3.

Following their only off day in a stretch of 40 games in 41 days, the Yankees started a three-game series that will be their only time at home over a 20-game span. In his seven-inning outing, he allowed three runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts. After Joe Biagini pitched a scoreless eighth, Chad Girodo allowed a pinch-hit home run to Austin Romine in the ninth.

At 22-25 and in last place in the American League East, the Toronto Blue Jays are one of baseball’s most disappointing teams.

RF Jose Bautista will have his hearing Thursday as he appeals his one-game suspension for his role in the brawl at Texas on May 15.

Toronto led the majors in runs past year, totaling 127 more than any other team, and returned three of the top-10 MLB’s top-three home run hitters – including AL MVP Josh Donaldson. The Jays are also 2-8 in his last 10 starts after scoring five runs or more in their previous game and are winless at 0-8 in their last eight starts versus a team with a losing record. He tossed a masterpiece in his last start before going on the shelf, blanking Baltimore on six hits over seven frames. Tulowitzki left in the bottom of the seventh, but there was no immediate word on whether he was hurt.

Sanchez, a righthander, was scheduled to pitch Wednesday’s series finale in NY. Travis is yet to appear in the majors this season following offseason left shoulder surgery. Saunders said. “We’re starting to show signs of life, and we’re looking to get this ball rolling”. “You jump the gun too soon, you don’t want him to get off to a struggle”.

During his rehab assignment, Travis collected 11 hits, including four doubles, in 36 at-bats between Double-A and Triple-A. RHP Luis Severino (strained right triceps) is to start Sunday for Class A Tampa.
