Yasir leads inspired Pakistan to 75-run win

James Vince (42) got a lucky escape on 9 before lunch when Younis Khan couldn’t grasp a hard low catch on his second attempt in the slips off Ali before Younis caught him – again on the second attempt – soon after lunch off Wahab Riaz.

England, requiring 283 to win the Test after cleaning up the Pakistan tail without much trouble early in the morning, faltered throughout their chase as the spin of Shah and the swing of Rahat Ali and Mohammad Amir proved too powerful.

After a dramatic day four of the first Test against England, Misbah-ul-Haq-led Pakistan won their first Test in two decades at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Pakistani skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq, after winning the toss made a decision to bat first.

England had resumed on 253 for seven in reply to Pakistan’s 339 all out but Yasir’s leg spin outfoxed the hosts.

Pakistan on Sunday defeated England by 75 runs in the first Test match of the four-match series that was played at Lord’s, reported Dunya News.

England’s Jake Ball loses his wicket for for three runs off the bowling of Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir.

England captain Alastair Cook, asked for his views on Pakistan’s unusual post-match celebrations, said: “You don’t take any offence, but certainly at that emotive time it’s not pleasant viewing”.

At tea, Pakistan were 111 for four in their second innings – a lead of 178 runs.

The England skipper accepted his side “were 100 runs light” in a disappointing first innings that ultimately handed Pakistan the immediate one-nil series advantage.

On a wearing track, Shah delivered the goods for the visitors as he added four wickets to his six in the first innings to end with a match-haul of 10 wickets – his maiden in the format. Mohammad Amir, making his Test comeback at the same venue where he was caught in the spot-fixing web six years ago, contributed his bit by picking up two of the last three wickets that fell in the final session.

A ball after Gary Ballance had pulled him for four, Yasir bowled the recalled left-hander behind his legs for 43 with a delivery that spun out of the rough.

Moeen Ali hardly helped England’s cause, dismissed for two when he charged at a Yasir delivery and was bowled to leave England on 139 for 6.

“We’ve lost here before, Australia thrashed us here, but we bounced back”.

Amir finished with 1-65 but showed that he still has the ability to bowl over and round the wicket and, with strong fingers and wrist, coax the ball either way in the air.

“Credit to Pakistan, they played a good four days, but we’re very confident we can beat them, but we have to get better”.

“It’s a good week for some guys growing up and becoming match-hardened Test cricketers”, said Cook, with the second Test at Old Trafford starting on Friday.
