Yates helps Texans to 24-17 win over Jets

At first glance I thought this line was a bit high but the more I look at it, I like the Cardinals. Nor do they deserve to be after Sunday’s humiliating 24-17 loss.

Meanwhile, the Jets, despite an energetic finish trying to tie things up, are now fit to be tied.

Hopkins beat Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis repeatedly before the cornerback left the game in the third quarter with a concussion. I’ll take the Ravens to win and cover at home. I love the J-E-T-S to win and cover.

“There’s a lot of throws I needed to make that I didn’t make, and obviously having two chances there at the end and not coming up with a touchdown on one of those drives hurts”.

Much of the contact was delayed, with a back or tight end chipping later in the play once Watt began to drive and get off balance.

Yates took over after Hoyer was injured in that one and accounted for the only touchdown of the night with a TD pass to DeAndre Hopkins. Two of those losses came in an overtime period. While the offense had to face the likes of J.J. Watt, Vince Wilfork, Jadeveon Clowney, Jonathan Joseph, etc.it was somewhat of a head-scratcher to see the defense get dismantled by third-string quarterback T.J. Yates. That the division is in such a down year is a major boon for the Texans and means they won’t be punished for a slow and discombobulated start to the season. It was the first full sack of his career.

– Both teams traded field goals early in the second quarter. Mangold was present on the sideline throughout the game following his injury, which his right hand bandaged. Brian Hoyer completed 12 of 22 passes for 123 yards but TJ Yates did the damage as a reliever when he led the Texans in a touchdown to seize the lead. “No”, Bowles said when asked if he was concerned with Revis’ performance. “That’s about the size of it”. They’re also holding opponents to just 20.4 points per game, which ranks ninth in the league. An Ivory fumble on the next play was reversed into down by contact.

The OddsShark computer is predicting a 25.7 – 20 Jets victory. But even at 10-10, would they have enough to pass Houston? Over his last two weeks, Fitzpatrick is 34 of 73 for 409 yards and three touchdowns with four interceptions.

The Jets tied the score at 10 early in the third quarter and appeared to have momentum. So the Jets are averaging 291 yards over their past three games. If he had anything to say about it, it might. Nevertheless, instead they ended up surrendering 19 first downs, 364 yards of offense, 123 rushing yards and 241 passing yards. The last time the Bills played the Patriots to within seven points (not counting last season’s Week 17 matchup the Bills won because Tom Brady and others sat out for part of the game) was September 2013. The Jets didn’t score on that drive. But three downs gained 5 yards, then Fitzpatrick tried to fit a ball over coverage to Devin Smith.

If it wasn’t Charles James II breaking up passes, or rookie corner Kevin Johnson wreaking havoc like vet or Eddie Pleasant and Andre Hal grabbing Fitzpatrick as if they were fallen fruit from trees, this team did anything and everything to get what they wanted.
