A 15-year-old teenager has been arrested in Northern Ireland by law enforcement over their alleged role in the TalkTalk hack. The boy was arrested due to the suspicion that he might be involved in Misuse Act offenses.

At the time of the arrest TalkTalk said it was still assisting police with the ongoing investigation.

Police have arrested a boy, 15, from Northern Ireland in connection with the massive cyber attack against Talk Talk.

TalkTalk has hired BAE Systems to continue investigating the hack, according to Reuters.

The “significant and sustained” hack on the TalkTalk on October 21 meant that the names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses and bank and credit card details were left open to hackers.

A ransom demand was received by TalkTalk on Friday evening after which the firm downplayed the seriousness of the attack as it did not believe those behind it would be able to steal money using the data.

The latest breach is the third in a spate of cyber attacks affecting the company’s customers.

Over the weekend, TalkTalk confirmed that it does not store credit card details on its website. It said there was no evidence that customer’s bank accounts have been affected but that it does not know how much information was encrypted.

In August the company revealed its mobile sales site was hit by a “sophisticated and co-ordinated cyber attack” in which personal data was breached by criminals.

The attack, which took place on Wednesday, prompted the company to deny accusations of laxity and say its security was “head and shoulders” above that of its competitors.
