Yelich, Stanton homer in 8th as Marlins beat Mets 5-4

The Mets seem to play well behind deGrom lately, so I’m a little more comfortable with NY here.

New York Mets catcher Travis d’Arnaud had a monster game Thursday, going 4-for-6 with a home run, four RBI’s and three runs scored in a 16-inning, 9-8 defeat of the Miami Marlins.

It took 16 innings and 5 hours and 38 minutes, but Robert Gsellman and the Mets were able to take down Wei-Yin Chen and the Marlins.

Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann (1-1) allowed five runs and four hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking a career-high five in an 11-5 loss to the Twins. The Yankees completed a three-game sweep and won their fourth in a row following a 1-4 start.

Jose Reyes went from first to third on a sacrifice bunt in the sixth, but Marlins reliever Jarlin Garcia – making his major league debut – escaped the jam to keep the score at 2-all.

“That’s easy to say in here, and I think in the moment I probably would have said, ‘Yeah, ‘ but I don’t know”, deGrom said.

“After I gave up those two home runs, I wasn’t very happy and I wanted to strike everybody out”, deGrom said. “The emotions of the home run helped lift my legs a little bit”, he said.

Jays snap 7-game skid with Morales walk-off HR TORONTO – Kendrys Morales homered off Tyler Wilson leading off the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays stopped a seven-game losing seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.

“That’s what we were supposed to do last night”, Rojas said of the celebration. “It has been fun”. The Nationals’ bullpen allowed only two baserunners and no runs in three inning. Miguel Rojas led off with a single and advanced on a sacrifice but was stranded by Hansel Robles (2-0), who pitched two scoreless innings. He asked his closer Jeurys Familia to work a third straight day, and fourth in five days, to get five outs.

“It’s baseball. I feel bad for the team”, said Salas, who insisted he was ready to pitch despite his heavy workload.

The Mets will be bringing out RHP Jacob deGrom in Saturday’s game.

The Mets answered back the next inning. Ozuna came into the game leading the majors with 16 RBIs. He reached base five times.

“What we didn’t tell anyone is that Volquez threw his bullpen yesterday”, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. Ozuna also leads the team with 3 Home Runs.

Exhausted from the team’s 16-inning win over the Marlins on Thursday night and exhausted as a result of the absence of the suspended Jeurys Familia, who will return Thursday.

J.T. Realmuto delivered a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Marlins to a 3-2 victory over the Mets on Friday. “We are still looking for an owner”, team president David Samson said. “You’ve got to take advantage when guys make mistakes, and we were able to do that tonight”. Will it become our rally cat? Miami sent RHP Nick Wittgren to Triple-A New Orleans. His 13 strikeouts tied a career high set in 2014, and were the most by a Mets pitcher since Noah Syndergaard fanned 13 Diamondbacks on July 15, 2015. He pitched seven innings to beat the Marlins last Sunday. He fell behind 3-0 on Michael Conforto, who could have taken a pitch.
