The Marlins will play IN Philadelphia September 16-18, so Philly fans will have one last chance to give A-Rod the farewell he deserves. Mike Dunn (3-1) pitched a flawless seventh.

After Morneau tied it, the Sox had runners at the corners with two out. Melky Cabrera took a weak swing at a 2-2 pitch in the dirt, but the ball skipped away from catcher J.T. Realmuto, allowing Cabrera to reach first while Navarro came home from third.

Yeilch’s strike from left field to Jeff Mathis cut down pinch-runner Carlos Sanchez attempting to score from second on a two-out single by Tyler Saladino in the ninth inning. He was tagged for the final out of the game and was slow to rise. In his first full season in the majors he has pitched 130 1/3 innings, approaching the most in his professional career. They needed a number of notable contributions to improve to 4-8 for the month before embarking on a seven-game trip.

The Marlins had 14 hits, but lost their third game in a row. They’ve dropped 10 of the past 15.

Gomez, like Rodriguez, is having a down year, batting.210/.272/.322 with five home runs and 29 RBIs.

Alex Rodriguez would hypothetically fit into the middle of the Marlins line-up in his quest for 700 home runs.

Chicago’s Adam Eaton homered on the game’s first pitch.

After giving up two runs in the first inning, Koehler got them back when he hit a two-run single off Sale’s right foot in the fifth.

The Sox scored a run in the sixth on a replay reversal. With the bases loaded, Tim Anderson was called out on a force at the plate but ruled safe following a review, cutting Miami’s lead to 7-6.

White Sox: 2B Brett Lawrie (hamstring) was sent to Double-A Birmingham on a rehab assignment. “We’ll see where that goes”, Hill said on Sunday.

Giancarlo Stanton is out for the season with a groin injury, Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly announced on Sunday.

The Miami Marlins achieved a dramatic victory on the field Sunday, but it was overshawdowed by a bigger loss.

Koehler dueled Sale to a standoff for six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, and also contributed at bat.

Despite a recent flurry of injuries and a 4-8 start to August, the Marlins remain in a tight battle with St. Louis for the second wild-card spot in the National League.
