The Met Office has put the warning in place for most of the central part of the UK.

A chief forecaster’s assessment states: “A slack area of low pressure will move slowly across southern Britain today, bringing unstable air and the potential for thundery showers”.

A YELLOW warning of rain in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire has been issued from this afternoon (October 6) by the Met Office.

The North West and North East of Wales may see quite a lot of heavy, persistent rain and I wouldn’t wager against thunder as well between now and midnight.

“Minor disruption due to flooding is likely, with an additional risk of very isolated more substantial impacts”.

The Met Office added: “Some doubt remains about amounts and areas affected, but a few places may receive more than 15mm of rain in an hour, with overall totals perhaps in excess of 40mm in several hours”.

It warned the heavy showers could cause temporary surface water flooding, leading to travel disruption.
