Yemeni pilgrims injured in Mecca hotel fire
High winds, 10 days ago, toppled a massive crane that smashed into Mecca’s Grand Mosque and killed at least 107 people, including 11 Indians.

A total of 17 Egyptian pilgrims have reportedly died due to “health issues”, according to an Egyptian mission in Saudi Arabia monitoring the health status of the Egyptians flocking into the kingdom to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The Hajj has been nearly incident-free for the past decade but 108 people, including foreign pilgrims, died earlier this month when a construction crane fell on Makkah’s Grand Mosque.
One problem was that of “pauper” pilgrims who made the Hajj but could not afford to travel home.

But while its significance in the Islamic world is well known, it also became a major but lesser known feature of British imperial culture.
