YES: Rob Refsnyder will be called up to Yankees on Saturday

The news that Refsnyder would be a Yankee by Saturday overshadowed the rather drab events on the field Friday as the Yankees, behind a very sharp Michael Pineda, beat up on a sloppy Red Sox team that lost ace Clay Buchholz to elbow tightness in the fourth inning. “Good for him, he’s a good player”. We’ve heard he’s improved. Girardi said the righthanded-hitting Refsnyder will start each of the next two games against lefties Eduardo Rodriguez and Wade Miley.

Baseball America ranked Refsnyder as the seventh-best prospect in the Yankees organization entering the season after a big 2014 season that saw him hit. 182 batting with 12 homeruns and 25 RBIs.

Refsnyder, 24, was batting. “It’s a young man that’s been on our radar, and we’ll see how he does”. 176 with four home runs and 11 runs batted in over 39 games with the Red Sox before being traded to the rival New York Yankees.

The Yankees haven’t laid out a plan on how long Refsnyder will be up, but he will have at least two games to impress before the All-Star break. Drew doesn’t know exactly how he’ll fit when Refsnyder comes up, but he did say he was extremely happy for Refsnyder and couldn’t wait to see him play.

“I think [Refsnyder is] good”, Drew said after going 1-for-4 and reaching on an error. Brief power surges aside, Stephen Drew has struggled to the tune of a 72 wRC+ and below-replacement -0.3 WAR.

“I want to get to New York as soon as possible”, Refsnyder said to Martin. “I’m looking forward to seeing what we’ve got”. At worst, he might be part of a platoon with Drew to start, but if Drew is going to be covering third base for Headley even that isn’t going to be the case.
