York City appoint Jackie McNamara as new manager
Jackie McNamara admitted his excitement at the challenge ahead of him at York City, having been appointed the club’s new manager yesterday.

The former Scottish worldwide successfully guided both Dundee United and Partick Thistle towards the tops of their respective divisions in his two previous managerial roles, until a serious reversal of fortunes suddenly found the Tannadice club propping up the rest of the Scottish Premiership this season.
JACKIE McNamara is back in football as manager of York City in England’s bottom tier.
The former Celtic and Scotland defender will be joined at Bootham Crescent by former Scotland team-mate Simon Donnelly, who becomes his assistant for a third time.
First up for McNamara is a trip to Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup first round on Saturday and he has set his sights on a morale-boosting victory. I don’t know how long I will be in charge but I’ve loved every minute so far.
“I want to take the club forward like Derek has done at Plymouth”.
“The most important thing is we crack on up the league and make sure we get back to winning ways”.
“I was very open minded about it – when I came down and looked at it and spoke to the chairman and the board, it really whet my appetite”.
“I think there are two sides to this going forward”.
“What we’ve done in our last two jobs is to turn around the fortunes of the clubs”, McNamara told The Press.
