York Habitat for Humanity holds home dedication ceremony
Jackson-Union County Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

It was a celebration as Ana Trejo, her son and her daughter are handed the keys to their new Habitat for Humanity built home.
Angel works as a shift manager at McDonald’s, and is “overwhelmed”, at the thought of owning a home.
Since applying last Spring, Trejo put in her required 500 hours of sweat equity – labor on her home and other Habitat projects. Even though the family has been there for month now, Zickafoose is still said the feeling is still surreal. “They aren’t getting paid and they are putting in all these hours to make sure we have a great home”. “We had to do a cul-de-sac and build the property up so that we were able to do that; and by this time next year, we will have all six homes done”, said Jelinek. “We have a solid group of volunteers, but I want to keep it so we can get it done in one day”.
“Is this is when I pass out?”, said new home owner Wayne Zickafoose to the crowd that gathered for ceremony.
“We finally have a set place where we are”, he said.
Jeff said when he found out they would receive a home it was a “mixed bag”, of emotions.
The families will move in December 1 or sooner.
“That is the exciting part for me”, said board chair Iona Tough.
