You can now unlock Chrome OS with nothing more than a PIN

The feature, which is still being tested, is part of a new build for the Chrome OS. There’s now a third option: a simple personal identification number. This PIN must simply be keyed in to the Chrome OS, negating the need for one to type complex passwords.

“This will definitely come in handy for touch devices”, wrote Google employee Francois Beaufort in a Google+ post.

The new feature was announced by Mountain View engineer François Beaufort and can be switched on in the developer channel with a simple flag tweak.

Beaufort also shared the process on how users could deploy the functionality into their system. For those wondering how to go about unlocking their device’s screen with a PIN on Chrome OS, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you out.

Navigate to the new “Screen Lock” section.

According to reports, the PIN is only to unlock the device on the lock screen, for convenience sake.

Key in the PIN, and watch yourself unlock the Chrome OS with a code rather than a password. However I think that this pin lock feature should be expanded to also include passwords.

“This experimental feature is now being tested in the latest Dev update”.

Once started, navigate to the settings page for Chrome Material Design.
