The phones are water resistant and included beefed-up cameras.
The recall comes at a crucial time as rival Apple has just released its new iPhone 7.
Customers are being urged to keep their mobile off until they can get an exchange, but the commission has insisted customers can ask for a refund.
On September 2, 2016, Samsung announced its plan to recall millions of its brand-new Galaxy Note 7 smartphones across 10 different countries, calling it a?global replacement program as a result of?battery cell issues in which users have reported phone battery fires or explosions while charging.
Kaye said customers subject to the recall have two options: either to seek a replacement or a refund, “which is the choice of the customer and the customer alone”. The official recall follows weeks of reports of exploding Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. “This recall involves the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone sold before September 15, 2016. We notified them about a potential defect in the Note 7 battery and then issued a global directive to stop sales immediately”. The recalled devices have a 5.7-inch screen and were sold in the following colors: black onyx, blue coral, gold platinum and silver titanium with a matching stylus. “Anyone who chooses to travel with a recalled devices must take precautions to ensure its safe handling”, said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said on Thursday. It’s therefore no surprise that the FAA, which last week strongly advised airline passengers from using the Note 7, has banned use of the device during flight.
As the program goes into effect in phases, Samsung Electronics expects to resume sales of the latest model full swing in Korea from September 28, company officials said.
In the lawsuit involving Galaxy Note 7 handsets, Strobel has revealed that his Galaxy Note 7 exploded on September 9, while he was carrying it in his trousers pocket.
