Authorities say 20-year-old Calvin Riley was shot Saturday night by an unknown assailant at Aquatic Park near Ghiradelli Square.

“It was just senseless, just came up and shot in the back and ran away for nothing”, Family friend John Kirby told KGO-TV.

A member of Riley’s family has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for Riley’s funeral expenses. “There was nothing said back and forth”, Kirby said.

Moments later, the MA native was fatally shot after wandering ahead of his friend, said John Kirby, who spoke to the television station on behalf of the victim’s parents.

Since then, he attended San Joaquin Delta College, where he played for the school’s baseball team, according to the school.

“It’s awful.” As a high school senior, Riley played in 28 games and had 25 hits, 17 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

No one has so far offered a description of the shooter, but “there’s a good chance someone saw something”, says a US Park Police officer.

It’s unclear if the shooting was related to “Pokemon Go”, which has surged in popularity since it was released this summer.

Law enforcement officials have warned about the game’s possible dangers, saying players can become engrossed in the game and tune out to their surroundings. The assailant did not take any of Riley’s property or attempt to rob him, Jansing said.
