Several threats were reported Tuesday after they were posted on Yik Yak.
Students at a few colleges have also presented administrators with lists of demands in recent days, inspired by those of the protesters at Missouri, who brought down the university president and chancellor this week over what they saw as a sluggish response to racial slurs and other incidents on campus.
Middleton says everyone involved must confront hard issues, but he has great optimism about the future.
“One of the things impeding our ability to get beyond these issues is our inability to talk about it”, Middleton said. If we cancel the exam, they win; if we go through with it, they lose.
Middleton, a former law professor at the school as well as an alumnus, said he was looking forward to working with leaders on the four campuses. It also demonstrated the growing power of social media and how they contribute to social activism and, unfortunately, to civic ignorance.

Her call to action urges campus activists to organize demonstrations focused on the demands of University of Missouri students, the Black Tribune reports. R. Bowen Loftin, chancellor of the flagship campus, said he would step down from his role as well by the end of the year. Loftin will take a different position at the university.
Henson says he is shocked by the number of people who want to prevent the community from having a good relationship, including three people who have been charged with making online threats to attack campuses.
Police arrested Hunter Park in Rolla, Missouri, which is about 95 miles (150 kilometers) south of Columbia, at about 1:50 a.m. local time (0750 GMT). He is charged with making a terroristic threat, which is punishable by up to seven years in prison. Social media exploded Tuesday evening with reports of a campus shooting threat that was made on social media app Yik Yak.
The line “Some of you are alright”. Hilbrenner said Park’s had medical conditions that should be taken into consideration, but did not say what they are.
Mr. Park was not on grounds or adjacent when posting the message, police said.
“I came out here to just be a part of history”, Gaines said.
Park is from the St. Louis suburb of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, according to jail records. Park was arrested on suspicion of making a terrorist threat toward black students and faculty at the University of Missouri.
A warrant was issued for his arrest Thursday, but it is not clear if he is in custody.

Park is a sophomore at Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) in Rolla, which is part of the University of Missouri System, according to a spokeswoman at the Rolla campus.
