Young shrugs off Van Gaal’s comments
Young’s immediate focus will be helping United secure their first Champions League win of the season when Wolfsburg visit Old Trafford tomorrow night.

Shaw picked up a serious knee injury in United’s defeat by PSV in the Champions League, and Young, who has deputised for him in the past, admits he could move back into defence.
“We came into the season saying we wanted to fight for the title”, Young told MUTV.
“This is what a club like United is all about, wanting to be in the biggest competitions and we’re looking forward to the game on Wednesday”.
“It was a disappointing start to the European campaign especially the possession and chances we had in Eindhoven that really was disappointing”. We want to get ourselves back to winning silverware.
“I’m a versatile player who can play there as well as on the wing”, Ashley said.
Young came off the bench to set up Juan Mata for United’s third goal in the triumph over the Black Cats on Saturday.
He said, as reported by the Express: “I think we’re definitely suited to playing in the Champions League and I’m sure it will be a very successful campaign. I felt comfortable and, as I said, if the manager picks me to play there I’ll do everything I need to do”. “I know I have to play well for United to have a chance, and then you hope the England manager comes knocking on the door. It’s a different role for me compared to left wing or left midfield, there’s more of the defensive side to think about but I’m capable of doing that”.
Young has started just once for Manchester United this term after impressing in Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge and although he was under consideration for a call-up in May he was not selected by Hodgson due to a slight injury and advice from the Old Trafford medical department that rest would better serve the 30-year-old winger.
“I’m always going to make myself available as long as my legs can carry me around the pitch”. That is not going to happen soon. It is how you deal with it. We have great characters and great team spirit here and we are all pulling in the right direction. I feel fit if the call comes then it comes.

“Everybody wants to play but we all have to keep each other on their toes”. I have to wait and see. I am one of those players who is creative on the ball and wants to attack. I have had that competition throughout my career.
