Younis Khan makes history, Pakistan take the honours

Pakistan middle order safeguard shield Younis Khan is on the verge to surpass Javed Miandad, the highest run-getter in Test Cricket for the country, but he did not consider himself to be equal to Minadad and termed him as “ledend and an idol”.

Younis, who insisted that he would try his best to accomplish the score in the first innings of the opening Test against England, admitted that playing well for his nation was more important. “At the moment, my wish is to become the first (from) Pakistan to reach 10,000 runs for his country”. “I never thought I would do it at the start of my career”. “He was idolised by millions”, he added.

Like Miandad, Younis hit a century on debut, against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi in 2000. “I am feeling very normal, there is no pressure on me”.

Javed Miandad while talking to media said that Younis Khan is great player to watch and has achieved the milestone through continous struggle and hard work. He scored a magnificent unbeaten 171 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele earlier this year to help Pakistan chase down an imposing target of 377 and win the Test series 2-1.

That ton was also Younis’s fifth in a fourth innings of a Test, a new record in the history of the game, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar, Ricky Ponting, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Graeme Smith who have scored four each. “I was in good touch but at the end Misbah-ul-Haq scored a few quick runs”.
